Hello and Welcome to the Cavalcade of Schlock!
This site is the epicenter of the brainchild of one Micah P. Pearson, who is now pretentiously writing about himself in third-person, but promises to stop now. Where was I? Oh yes, The Cavalcade…
Simply put, the Cavalcade stems from an idea I had about creating a “bookclub” dedicated to the kind of B-movies you used to be able to go down to the local Drive-in to see on the big screen. We’re talking Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, Mummies, and Giant Monsters of every kind, from insects to homicidal interstellar clowns stuffed with confetti. There are any number of groups that gather for art-house pictures, documentaries, and even the top-tier schlock-fests that pass triple-A Hollywood blockbuster entertainment these days. But what about the love for Lifeforce? Where are the groups that gather for Shocker? Bubba Ho-Tep?
So, seven months ago we started a new tradition: Every second saturday of the month we, the penitent few, gather around the television and watch three films that fall in a particular sub-genre of the creature feature. One month: Space Invaders, the next: Giant Insects. We sit in the dark, munching snacks tailored to the theme (i.e. gummie spiders), and enjoy the best (and worst) that the redheaded step-child of cinema has to offer.
With each passing meeting, the Cavalcade has grown, as the idea has proven to be more popular than I ever thought it would. So I figured it was time to a) get a little more organized, and b) share it with others. Hence, the website.
We’re still little more than a wireframe, but as time passes, I hope to expand this little club into one that others can pickup and enjoy. If not, I at least have a place into which I can direct my facination for all things crap-tastic.
So without further ado, I’m going to once again say “welcome” and invite you to explore what we’ve got to offer. Heck, feel free to comment and let me know what you think I should add to this place!
