Cavalcade Event 12 Preview: Part 2

Cavalcade Event 12 Preview : Part 2

As the date of the grand event draws closer, we thought it would be fun to look over what the past year has brought us,  give a sneak peek of what you can expect from the upcoming shenannigans, and take a quick look at the next year.

In part 1, we looked at the first year of the Cavalcade and its accidental origins. In this part, we look into the future of the Cavalcade, and give you the tiniest hint of what you can expect from Event 12: Greatest Hits of 2008. So let’s get rolling, shall we?

Expansion of the Main Event

One of the things that sets the Cavalcade apart from a simple movie night is its adherance to a theme for its marathon movie madness and selected menu. One month it’s Killer Bugs, with Gummy worms and Bug Juice, and the next it will be Vampires with Bloody Marys. With our focus locked in so mightily on creature features and, by extention, horror movies, we ignored a vast ocean of options in Exploitation and B-movie cinema. Where were the pimps? Where were the woman behind bars? What about the fine arts of Revenge and Shaolin?

Well, as the cavalcade rolls into its  second year, we fully intend to explore the depths that the Grindhouse has to offer in these arenas. Crippled Kung-Fu Masters will line right up next to Cyborg Samurai School Girls in our screenings. Rather than limiting ourselves to Horror each month, we will select a theme from either Sci-Fi, Action, or Horror Genres. Thus opening things up and appealing to a larger legion of movie fans.

Here’s a quick look at a cross-section of the themes we’ve pulled for our pool:

  • Kung-Fu
  • Cyborgs
  • Revenge
  • Gun-Fu
  • Swords and Sorcery
  • Swashbuckler
  • Western
  • Ninjas
  • Hijack Movies
  • Blacksploitation

With another of our great traditions being that our first movie screened serves as a bridge between the past theme and the next, we’re really interested in seeing some of the crazy mixtures that will be coming out of the next 12 months.

Cavalcade in your Mail

As world of media continues to change and evolve in the age of “on demand”. From time-shifted television viewing (or TiVo) to Print-on-Demand book publishing, it’s getting ever easier to create small publications that cater to niche audiences. Well, these last few months have seen us over at Magcloud, a print-on-demand magazine service that will allow us to put together an even more detailed version of the Cavalcade round-ups we already put together here, with full-color menus and features on the perfect film choices for an event. Think of it as a do-it-yourself Cavalcade kit.

The biggest goal we’ve always had for the Cavalcade is to make it an event that anyone who was interested could host  themselves, and everything we’ve done thus far has been with that in mind. We feel that this would be a great step towards that goal, and are really excited about it. We’ve already compiled a lot of great stuff for our pilot issue and will be moving into design soon, so keep your eyes peeled for more info!

More Special Events

While we want everyone to be able to use our templates as a framework for their own events, we also want to continue our expansion and create the best experience we can. We came up with the thing, might as well be the best we can at it, yeah? So to that end, expect more events like the one coming up on the 28th. Real venues and a real drive-in quality experience.

So with that, what’s going to be so special about this event?

A little hint….

As we mentioned in the event write-up, the Cavalcade Event 12 will be taking place in a local art galelry. The space was  chosen for it’s wide spaces and large white walls. Funny thing we noticed when we were walking through the space was that there were way more empty walls than we needed for a single projector, so what might we do with two?

And that’s  all we’ll say for today. Check in tomorrow to get more info in the 3rd and final installment!
